“Uglies” (2024) is a dystopian film directed by McG, based on Scott Westerfeld’s novel. In a futuristic society, everyone undergoes mandatory cosmetic surgery at 16 to become “pretty.” Tally Youngblood, played by Joey King, eagerly awaits her transformation.
However, when her friend Shay runs away to avoid the surgery, Tally is coerced by authorities to find her. During her journey, Tally discovers the dark truths behind the seemingly perfect society and begins to question the true meaning of beauty and individuality.
