Plot Summary
Set in 1969 Palm Beach, the series follows Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig), a middle-aged former beauty queen from a modest background, who schemes her way into the elite social circles of Palm Beach. With her husband Douglas Dellacorte’s wealthy family in decline, Maxine seizes the chance to reinvent herself as high-society royalty. The season explores themes of ambition, deception, and the absurdity of old-money extravagance, culminating in the Beach Ball’s 50th anniversary gala, where secrets, betrayals, and political intrigue (including President Nixon’s appearance) set up the cliffhanger ending.
